SAZ Bike Testival 2026 – Robyn's experience with four eBikes

The Ridley EASTR with the TQ HPR40 was Robyn's first test ride. After some initial challenges on the part of the TQ sales team (electronic shifting without a battery is no fun), the verdict was that the small motor does not convince across the board. The drive system will certainly find its niche, but it needs to be clearly communicated which expectations it can meet. On steep sections where power or cadence is not sufficient, the motor cuts out. This became clear on the steep test ramp and was an important moment for understanding the technical limits. On the plus side, the look and feel and the sound of the motor are truly excellent. ridley-bikes

The BMC Fourstroke AMP LT with the larger TQ HPR60 convinced on every level and was simply a joy to ride. The motor works naturally and quietly, yet delivers noticeable support exactly when you need it. A thoroughly well-rounded system. bmc-fourstroke

The Nicolai S16 with the Pinion MGU is interesting. The MGU had not fully convinced Robyn so far, but its performance in this frame was the best experience with it yet. However, the noise level and the shifting do not quite live up to the high product promise you expect from Pinion, at least not in direct comparison with other bikes on the market. nicolai-bicycles

The final test ride on the Aventon Current EXP was a pleasant surprise. The drive concept is really convincing. You climb the mountains effortlessly, but only if you want to. It also works with less power and offers a pleasant riding feel, which Robyn honestly had not expected. The fitted Maxxis tyres and the Maven would be worth swapping, but the overall package at this fair price is really strong. One small drawback is the motor noise, which is not quite at the level of the competition. Aventon

For the Testival to establish itself in the long term, a few details should still be optimised. The route selection could be better thought out, and better signposting would be welcome for everyone without the Komoot app. After the first ride, however, you quickly get to know the terrain.

Robyn's wish is that the Testival stays. For that, though, it needs more local dealers on site, who unfortunately have not yet taken advantage of this great opportunity. An event that deserves to grow.
